It’s another Beach Boys Friday, but it is Halloween. What scary song could I play today? Their attempt at a disco tune from the late 1970s? The song that was co-written by Charles Manson? No, we are going back to the early 1960s from their first live album. Before they had a full catalog of hits to cover a two-hour concert, the Beach Boys would often do covers of songs they liked, including, when in season, the Monster Mash.
About the song choice: Today was a special treat. I actually set up a play list for Zoe today. A play list with just the Monster Mash. I started with the Beach Boys, followed by the original version by Bobby “Boris” Pickett and the Crypt-Kickers. Next up was the Goofy version from one of his Disney movies. We were deep into the cover by Sha Na Na before Zoe finally got up and kicked me out of her room. Happy Halloween everyone!
